As mentioned, Peat, ketapang leaves, and lava rocks or chips, presence of driftwood, decaying leaves or fauna (not recommended of cause). Actually most organic things will make water acidic when they break down, like the waste of fauna.

Coral chip will increase pH and harden the water. People use coral chips or coral rocks to achieve pH8+ for Sulawesi shrimp tank.

    Few methods:

    1. CO2 Injection - Lowers pH but unreliable as CO2 levels flucuate

    2. Ketapang Leaves - Tannins will colour water brown

    3. Peat - Same thing as Ketapang, will leak tannins. Several forms available: granules, peat moss, in a filter bag, etc

    4. Blackwater Extract - Basically the concentrated "juice" from soaking peat in water

    5. Inorganic acids - Stuff like HCl, H2SO4, etc. Example of aquarium safe product would be Seachem's Acid Buffer.
