I am using one. It does help in the nitrate level. Nitrate level used to be > 40ppm, now it is kept at < 20ppm.

I'm using it as well, NO3 is close to 10ppm, used to be 30ppm+++ depending on condition.

just a question: doesn't a planted tank soak up ammonia well? so you shouldn't have any nitrate right? since ammonia doesn't get converted to nitrite, then to nitrate?

    hi kel

i believe that it will work for marine just as much as it would for freshwater....the brand i bought is a taiwan brand...refill may not be needed as the only thing you will have to bare is the brownish sand....

    hi mech

the FFB is a equipment to be fitted after the main filter. The theory is that as the water enters the main filter, the oxygen is absorbed by the bacterial colony....as the water leaves the filter into the FFB, the water pressure churns the sand creating an area to colonise anaerobic bacteria...these colony are starved of dissolved oxygen and takes the oxygen from nitrate and processes it into nitrogen...so the answer would be yes it is a biological filter system.

    hi kel

bought it from aquamart...cant remember the exact price..think it should be around 80 to 90 bucks for the largest capacity.
