I bought these as Epiplatys sexfasciatus (see link) in a shop but I am not sure.
Can this be fasciolatus or some other species.
They are approx 4 cm in length and have started laying eggs.
Thanks in advance for suggestions / Erik

    Epiplatys, what specie?

    Erik,
I haven't yet positively ID'ed your fish, but looking at the pics, they look
more like an Aplocheilus specie, than an Epiplatys. The female has 8-9 vertical bars, just like the female Apl. lineatus but they grow to 12cm!
Your 4cm fish look like miniature lin. Would love to buy eggs from you if
they don't grow past 6cm as adults. I've yet to see an Epi with that much
extension on the anal fin. I'll keep looking!

It should be the Aplocheilus lineatus. They have the presence of dark blotch on dorsal fin base on both sexes and posterior dark vertical thin bars on female sides (male in faint).

    not Epiplatys !!

    Au SL,
Your fish, I assure you is Aplocheilus lineatus !! I have very fond memories of this fish from when I was 10-11 years of age in my fathers basemant killifish hatchery. I remember finding this fish stuck and dried to the concrete floor, as the fish was glued to the floor I retreived a cup to scoop water and pour onto the fishes body which loosened its grip from the floor and I picked up the fish and put into the cup with water. The fish appeared dead for a few moments and then it started to slightly twitch.
So I went to find my father to ask him what I should do! He said the fish was a lineatus and appears to still be alive! So we put the fish into to a small set up tank with airation and I spent the next hour watching this fish come back to life. I was totally amazed that the fish survived the outer drying. I kept the fish for several yaers and he grew into a very beautiful male adult.
By the way this species is one of the greatest jumpers of all the killifish I have ever experianced, tight lids are a must!!!
