    Hi folks

Itīs my very first post here, sorry for my "not so good" english, but I hope Iīll learn much more about killies here!

My F. Gardneri isnt releasing much eggs on the floating mops, and some people told me to use peat in aquarium floor, and yesterday I put a little of sphagnun and the pair went over the sphagnun in spawning behavior...
do they can spawn in substrate, peat or sphagnun instead of floating mops?

Iīll be very happy if anyone here give me some hand about this!!
    Again, sorry for my english!!

    Best regards!!

Hi Francisco, welcome to the forum and I can understand your English just fine.

Fundulopanchax species are known as 'switch spawners', meaning that they can spawn both in plants/moss/mops or in peat/substrate. Try it either way and see which method gives you better results. One of our members, Sia Meng, have tried spawning them in bowl with mop inside.

Alternatively, if the mop is floating, let the mop sink to the bottom... it just might make a difference.

While some basic methods do apply, experimentation is mostly fun.
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

I offer my pair of Fp. gardneri 'Lafia' both floating mops and sinking mops. They lay in both, but prefer the sinkng mop about 3 to 1. The alternative is to make a mop that is both sinking and floating. Make the strands long enough to drape over the aquarium floor by a few inches.
