The mosses in my 16" office tank have been doing very well so I decided to setup another 2ft moss tank (tank courtesy of subzero). Another reason is I wanted to grow weeping moss under lower temperature to see if I have better luck as almost all the weeping moss in my home tank has turned brown, probably due to the recent heat wave :-(

After 2 trips to the office, this is the result :

and these are the tank parameters :

    Size : 24x12x16"
Light : 8 hours of 16W FL light plus light from Window.
Gravel : only 1" Lapis gravel because I was afraid the cabinet cannot take the weight of 2 tanks
    Base fert : None
    Filter : 1 internal Eden 316 filter
Fishes : 4 killies (from ronnie), 1 green algae eater, 3 platies, 2 grey banded loach
    Temperature : 22C~24C
Plants : Hottonia inflata, Nymphoides sp, Eichornia diversifolia, Cryptocoryne spp, Echinodorus sp, Hornwort (red and green variety)
Mosses : Singapore, Christmas, Taiwan, Weeping, Java, Erect, Stringy, subzero's Fissidens sp, Moss from Malaysia and Liverwort (see if you could locate them  )

This is the freshly tied Weeping Moss which was 'imported' from Beijing :

The ball of Java moss is growing on a wire mesh and the filter is sitting beside it.

Gan, I'm particularly interested which are the two 'Malaysian Mosses'.

The 2 pieces of moss you gave me, Pinnatella sp. & Thuidium sp.(?), are still alive but not growing as quickly as I expected.

I re-read the linked thread because the Pinnatella sp. resembles the 'Flat Moss' from Denmark Are the 2 mosses you found, growing on trees (or the same tree) or near water (constantly damp, eg. besides a splashing stream or waterfall).

Was the general area in the shade or bright (or likely to receive short period of direct sun) If I can replicate some of the conditions, perhaps the moss might grow better.

BTW, when you have so many different species of mosses in the same tank, what are the chances of forgetting which is which? (I know I have that problem )
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

    Ronnie,
I found Pinnatella sp. on tree trunk in shaded areas while I only saw Thuidium sp. along river, either on rocks or trees along river bank. I think Pinnatella sp is probably terrestrial while Thuidium sp is semi-aquatic.

The Pinnatella in my tank have all melted while Thuiduim is surviving but is not producing as many fronds as when I found them.
