I've heard good things about it. From what I understand chemical properties of the straw kill the algae. It takes a short while before the straw begins to work from what Iunderstand.
It is 100% fish safe so feel free to experiment.

This method is meant for taming the algae for the short term. In the long run, you need maintain the right tank parameters to keep the plants healthy which would inevitably reap you algae-free plants.
Thank you for the replies. Freddy is it available in Singapore? Where can i find it?
You can find iit at petmart .
Actually the straw can last at least 6 months and is employed year round in many english ponds to keep the algae in control. It is very effective.
How much are they selling it for?Originally Posted by choycs
Max, sometimes it isn't very nice to reveal prices. As "choycs" already mentioned the shop, call them or drop by to get more details.
If it works as intended, drop us some feedback. Thanks.

Kho, there's some BBA in my tanks but I can live with that. Not everything has to be spotlessly clean you know  but thanks, I'll let you know when I need help.
Yup, saw the price for the HP40 and it's more affordable now. I've been running the older 40GJL series for the past 13yrs and now have a backup 80. Good pumps!

If you guys have done your homework, you are probably already aware that the barley straw stuff is for outdoor use only. It apparently needs strong direct sunlight to do much good.
Aquarium algae is best treated by getting the plants growing better with the proper light and nutrients.

FYI: Parrots feathers (Mylfoil) produces antialgae compounds that are quite effective. They particularly hate Cynobacteria... Hornwort also has an arsenal of antialgals up its fronds.
Diana Walstadt's book has a whole list of plants that wage war on algae.

Wright is right, it needs sunlight to react with the barley straw possible give up the hydrogen peroxide during the process and kill algae. And it takes sometime for the barley straw to rot.Originally Posted by whuntley
