IMO mahachai should lean more towards B. imbellis. They are really gentle, Tink can kept the males all together. When they spawn, surprisingly the female does not suffer from torn fins.

Hi all
Can any one comment on the temperament of B. sp. Mahachai? Do they lean more towards B. splendens or B. imbellis? Can males be kept together or should they be isolated?
thanks

azmi of Eco culture LFS keeps all his mahachai in the same display tank.... the males spar but I don't see damage done.
In a crowded tank they don't seem to fight but in individual tanks with lesser fish they might fight. Aggression seems to be mild, a little like imbellis but its still there. Males can be kept together Tyrone, but look out for aggression, especially if some are in breeding mood. Good luck if you have them. They're very beautiful.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
This is good news... Thanks. Although, FYI, I was doing pretty much the same thing with B. splendens back in SA. I had a 1.2m tank full of males and females and they all lived happily ever after (as long as no-one was out of the tank for so long as for everyone else to forget him in which case if was murder).
thanks again for the replies.

Even wild male B. splendens will not fight all the much when you keep them together in the same tank. The fighting strain in the other hand will fight to dead do them part!
