I hatched eggs I bought at Aquabid.
Of Notho. melanospilus I got 6 fry growing as expected.
However, 2 have the same problem with the tail fin.
The tail fin is very small and the spinal cord is narrowed in front of the tail fin (ie more narrow than normal).
Since 2 fry have the same condition I suspect that it can be a genitical explanation, may-be a recessive gene.
    Have anyone experienced this condition?
Or do you have an opinion about it?

It could be environmental. Cull them if you can afford to do so and then breed with the fit fish. If you see the saem trait in the next generation then you can start to worry... You can try and breed a good strain but they may take a lot of time. What is the strain?

    Back to my melanospilus problem...
    One healthy fish jumped ship...
    That leaves five.
Two of the healthy ones and both problem ones developed freckles...
Which means they are females. I thus fed the problem ones to my sjoestedti (I have not yet received orthonatus that I bought on Aquabid).

Now the follow-up question - what is the chance of that the remaining one is a male.

Do males show the colors before or after females in melanospilus?
