    Hi, folks,

Someone sent me an email with about 20 pictures of his fish which he calls L. marmoratus. I have no idea what fish is it as I can't read his email. It's either in Spanish or Portuguese. Here's what he wrote:

Estas fotossão de autoria minha (Alexandre Zilves) e Maurício Martins, podem publicá-las e divulgá-las, e façam bom proveito. Existem filmes deste peixe também.

Obs.: Existem algumas fotos q o macho está com uma fêmea de A.australe.

These are 3 of the pictures he sent:

    Anyone understands the email?

Best i can figure out, it says these are pictures of a male L. marmoratus with a female A. australe. I saw the same pictures in a copy of a Brazil Killifish Club bulletin. It is the real deal but I am told that the captive strain this represents has been lost. An expedition is being planned to reacquire it along with L. splendens (sandrii).

While AltaVista's translator isn't the best and most accurate it is kind of helpful. People in Brazil speak Portugese.

    Rough translation via Altavista's translator.

This fotossão of authorship mine (Alexander Zilves) and Maurício Martins, can publish them and divulge them, and makes good advantage. Films of this fish also exist.

Obs.: Some photos q exist the male are with a female of A.australe

KL, that male fish in the picture is the presumably extinct but recently rediscovered Leptolebias marmoratus.

Tyrone, if they do re-acquire this species, along with sandrii and leitaoi, that would be very good news indeed.

But why would anyone keep a male Leptolebias marmoratus with a female australe?

I have no idea but maybe they were using the female australe as a stand-in for a photo of a "pair" of the Leptolebias marmoratus?

These photos had been taken off in 2001 when this fish was discovered again. The male only was placed with the femea of australe because its fêmea died. Who to want films of this fish is only to send an email asking for.
