I have kept fish with a taste for my plants from eating them by using lightly blanched zucchini slices as a preferred snack..
When preparing the zucchini for my own consumption, I cut a slightly-more-generous amount off the ends. Placed in water and microwaved for a minute or two, the air in the squash is easily squeezed out so the pieces will sink.
If you keep some constantly present, you may find the catfish strongly prefer the squash. It shouldn't be done to the point of mushiness, but just "al dente." You don't want squash soup in your tank.
