Anyone have any ideas how to reduce/slow down the releasing of tannic acid?
what if the piece of driftwood is too big for it to be boiled?

    Hi SpuD

If the wood is too big to be boiled, then you could boil water with salt. Pour the hot salt solution over the wood slowly in the bath-tub (which will be great) or a deep pail. Leave it for about 2 to 3 days.

about 10 to tablespoon full....it helps to disinfect the wood and prevent leeching....
