    Hi guys,

Anyone with experience with Ocean Free's Super Disease Away? It suppose to be Potassium Permaganate.

Anyway, tried using it today and it's a major disaster. They recommended 2 ml per 10 L. I put 10 ml for a 57 L tank, which is slight under their recommended dosage. It suppose to clear in about 3 hrs, but since 10 AM till now (15 hrs later), the water is only brown, not turning clear.

Also, the treatment killed everything in my tank (fish and prawns), despite having aerated the 2 ft tank with an air pump. And the pump was causing another problem because the bubbles created stained my walls and floors as well.

Can anyone who have used PP share their experience? I was hoping to use this treatment for my larger tank (which is suffering from Columnaris) sometime soon.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,

Wow, I only tried pp in a plain jar for a betta, in a very dilute form and the betta later died.

PP is really potent. If the water turns brown from purple, it's supposed to be oxidised. Probably can change water already.

A friend who is more experienced with pp in betta treatment told me that it's only used for a quick dip, else it'll kill the betta

Well....the articles form the krib as well as the instructions says wait till color of water turns to colorless. Now it's 24 hrs later and it's still brown. I think Ocean Free's instruction is misprinted then. The dosing quantity is wrong.

Ok. It's 36 hrs now and it's still brown. The recommended dosage on Ocean Free's packaging is wrong. I'm never going to use this product again.

KMNO4 is a very strong oxidiser
it'll only turn colourless when all of it is reduced
if it's brown, means you don't have anything in the water for it to react with
and it'll just stay there damaging the stuff in your tank
    change your water

Generally I try to avoid ocean free products as well, however I do use their anti chlorine... but not so much in my tank, but after bleaching some of my aquarium things... Then again I just use whats cheap and available including some less reputable brands for this purpose.
