While live food is preferred by many fishes, some are not picky about them. Dwarf gouramis are not fussy eaters and will take flakes, but it doesn't do any harm to treat them with other dry, live or frozen food occasionally.

Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
Sometimes male may kill the female during mating.
Saw one female killed in the small breeding tank, floating at the surface during a farm visit.
my males are always chasing after my other fishes too
They are not fussy; dried food can be their staple, with occasional live/frozen foods for nutrition and best health!
