Just thought id say congrats on the spawn CK Yeo..
Woohoo! Though I know it is not a big deal to most... but since this is the first time spawn a wild betta, so must take picture.
Doesn't look that many because I disturbed the nest to get a better view of the fries and sucked out all the free swimming ones already... No pics of the super shy parents who I didn't even think were mature enough to spawn. More pics of them if I get the chance.
Sigh. Why these things all so tiny? Anyone with experience raising these things? BBS again?
ck
p.s. pardon the WB and distortion.
Just thought id say congrats on the spawn CK Yeo..
Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
Starts with microworm after frys are free swimming. Dump some Java moss too, absorb nutrient and also provide microscopic food. After a few days, switch to BBS, then followed by boon. After that chopped tubifex. Dump in some snails too, help to clean up the leftovers.
Don't let the 'sudden-death disease' from your other tanks gets into your fry tank.
Good luck.
Congrats Yeo! Its a great feeling when your fish has spawned, the growing process from fry to adult is even more interesting!
Where did you get your imbellis pair from?
Hope to see the parents soon

first few days the fries would eat infusoria... and on the 5th day they would start eating daphnia/bbs already...but you can start on daphnia on the 3rd day just to make sure that they would have available things to eat immediately
daphnia is prefered to bbs as they can survive longer in fresh water and there maybe smaller daphnia around for the younger fries. also, daphnia can be used as their staple food till adulthood..
another thing is that the salt in bbs is not that good for wild betta in the long run
good luck...

Hey congrats Yeo! Spawning fish is the best feeling in fishkeeping.
Do you have any advice to a new imbellis keeper like me, on how to keep this species well. I have a pair I got from C328. They are not showing aggression, but they are very inactive. What's your setup like? Is soft water (with ketapang leaves) necessary? What are you feeding the parents? My pair isn't very interested in frozen bloodworms.
Any advice is much appreciated
1foot tank + Tapwater + 1 ketapang leaf + tubifex = spawn.
I barely had them for a week so I can't advise much.
I have not seen them eat either but they seem to be ok.

Ok thanks... I'll try something like that. Read that they normally spawn beneath floating plants. You're feeding them live tubifex?
ck,
You into wild betta?
congrats on your spawn.
Should be quite big by now

Congrats on your spawn bro
any updated photo?
dunno to congrat on the spawning or the nice photos or both...
any updates on this spawn?
I raised Betta imbellis through F3 gen.
They are easily bred. I always begin feeding my fry a green water/infusoria culture their first 4-5 days then begin feeding Artemia nauplii along with infusoria transitioning to all nauplii. I condition breeders on live black worms and Artemia nauplii.
I am currently raising Betta sp "Mahachai". I imported a wild pair from Bangkok last summer and have about 175 F1 young adults. They have been spawning in a 10 gal display tank but I added some T. espei to eat the unwanted fry.
Mahachai do not eat their own young and can quickly over populate a large tank.
