My glosso seems to grow upwards only.
Is there anyway to get them to spread?
Can i just trim the top and plant them at the side?

usually when this happens it is becoz of insufficient lights, but your tank seems very brightly lighted though, so that might not be the problem.

How did you plant them in though? maybe you can try bending instead of cutting the top parts back into the soil. that works for me previously.

your light seems to be very light towards the center, not evenly distributed? The glosso might not be getting the intensity they need.

The glosso is tied onto wire mesh.

domzz, unlike riccia, glosso have roots so they need not be in the wire mesh.. suggest u remove the wire mesh and replant them... I manage to keep them growing low by pushing them back into the gravel everytime I see them growing upwards (my 4ft was slightly above 2watts per gallon)

hi domzz, i'm a newbie and started with glosso from one of the good forumers here too. with slightly more than 3W/gallon for my 2 ft tank, the glosso is stopping at 1 inch high and is starting to grow sideways. CO2 is at 2-3 bps.

it is quite obvious they need huge amount of light as i have some behind which are already 2 inches long as they are covered by some big leaves.

also, i planted them stem by stem as advised by some. cut off the top few leaves. use a tweezer and push it all the way down into the gravel till only the top 2 leaves show. the bottom leaves will serve to anchor the glosso

    hope this helps [:]

Along with everything everyone said above, having medium to soft water helps and the right amount of Co2. With glosso you have to train it to grow horizontally. Just trim it like you would grass and it will start. Its like lotus plants, if you trim it, it will stay low.

I suggest you replant your glosso and plant the apart this time. It looks like the plant is fighting for space to grow which amy explains the vertical growth.
    Cheers!!

    - the above diagram is how i planted the glosso, 1-2 cm apart
    - make sure the glosso is pushed deep into the gravel showing only the top 2,3 leaves
    - make sure no plants are shading the glosso i.e. direct lighting is required
    - lights @ 72W for my 73l 2ft tank
    - CO2 at 2-3bps
