Sighted in Suntec City koi pond

Was passing by today and saw there's a mature Tilapia buttikefori swimming amongst the koi. Also many large Plecos. But saw one 8 inch sucker cat with a stubby body and very very long dorsal and caudal fin extensions. The front dorsal rays are really sail-like, like those on the buttefly ram cichlid. Any idea what is this???

budak, the buttis are seen everywhere. must have been some
"kind" soul doing a "good" deed by somewhat "donating" his fish to the pond in fact, anywhere u can find an ornamental koi pond, u'll find some odd fish and the standard terrapin.

Nature will find its way. An otherwise difficult fish to keep in the aquarium will often surprise you by breeding rapidly in an open pond with neglect.

that's the good and bad thing about it..... small man-made ponds are fine.... but natural waters burgeoning with hybrid cichlids are hell for the ecosystem.

saw ChannelNewsAsia today, and they featured this LH breeder who has this silly notion that his fish's markings resemble a mermaid and is asking for thousands for it. And he said he is cross-breeding the red parrot cichlid and LH, and using hormone injections to stimulate spawning.

btw, is it true to say that it is in their natural behaviour to pick up gravel? thus, some scruplous person suggested marbles with numbers on it..so they'd pick out the "winning numbers" ?

It's their natural behaviour to dig a pit, which involves moving pebbles around.

The picking numbers trick... already done. Saw one tank the other day. They used sinking plastic balls with numbers and they write the numbers picked on the glass.

okay, was down at c328 today. saw a hybrid that pretty much resembled the labiatum or red devil, except it had a slightly deformed head and it was tail-less. gosh.. sometimes i wonder how the progeny of these other cichlid x parrotfish spawns ever survive.

I'm feeling sad for the luohan. You know how is it like when then whole euphoria about lh collasped ... just like the dot.com bubble. Many will be killed later as supply far far exceed demand.

yea man...in a small shop in a hdb alone, there're about 200+ juvenile luohans...
guess they can use the luohan as feeder for the snakes should the craze die down. like in a picture someone posted awhile back.
