Hi everyone... I have a planted tank, but am generally still not sure how to go about a fertilization regime. I've been looking around the forum, but don't seem to be able to find something that can help and guide me.

Wonder if theres anyone who can advise the following based on my specs:

    Tank: 2.5ft by 1.5ft by 1.5ft
Plants: Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'', Hairgrass, Java fern, Nanas, Vallisneria americana (natans), Myriophyllum aquaticum (Green) green, Myriophyllum tuberculatum (Red) red & some Riccia

    CO2: 2-4bps
    Lights: 2 x 55w PL lights
    Substrate: GEX "Green" Soil

Is there a need for me to buy liquid fertilizer? If yes, what should I go for? I currently have a bottle of EIHO pottassium, but don't read about it in the forum. No one seems to have it. Every one seems to be either using Flourish or some form of SeaChem product or ADA, etc.

Can someone point me inthe right direction?

    Thanks in advance!!!!

yes you still need liquid fertilizer. You need to dose N, P, K as well as trace element. I'm not familiar with EIHO pottassium (K) yhus can really give any advice

You can try follow EI (estimate index) dosing regime, it should be somewhere in the forum just do the search

    Thanks Shadow... Can I confirm...

    1. Seachem nitrogen
    2. Seachem trace
    3. KH2PO4 (What brand is this?)
    4. Seachem iron

Do you use Seachem Flourish? Is it needed with all the rest you mentioned in your list?

    Thanks!

KH2PO4 is dry fert from lushgro

I'm not using seachem flourish, I prefered to use seachem trace instead.

Actually any brand will do , but most importan must follow the doasge and then make adjustment base on yoru observation of the plants.

use the calculator below to calculate how much ppm per ml. With target 20ppm per week, 500ml last for 10 weeks. Definitely not cheap compare to dry KNO3

Try calcium nitrate for your N. You'll have to dose K2SO4 to make up for the lost K from KNO3 (but with Seachem Nitrogen you'll have to as well) and it's alot cheaper. However, it's hygroscopic, so you'll have to dissolve it in water or just dose a sludge instead (not easy to measure). Based on my calculations on its solubility, you can dissolve 1kg in 4litres of water, and have enough for over a year!

Hi Robert, yes it will but KH2PO4 is not meant to be dosed in large quantity as you'd only be trying to hit 1-3 ppm for PO4. Less if you have a lot of fishes.

I actually don't dose this anymore. Smaller plants look better. Just keep a few more fishes and keep their tummies full.

I don't dare to dose K2SO4, last time I dose my yamato gone one by one until I stop dossing it. Maybe due to the SO4?

I use 7:3 KNO3:K2SO4. + other stuff like GBSL, Ferka trace, Step 2, Green Gain, ECA, Excel, etc. All mixed up. seems better for the plants if they have a buffet.

hmm stan you dose K2SO4 with KNO3? Tom Barr mentioned that if you dose GH booster + KNO3 you already have more K than you need for EI

    Hi Illumnae,
GH booster? You lost me there. GH booster is Ca2+ & Mg2+ + is it not?

I only understand the basics of EI, [not that it is very hard ] but a nice large WC takes care of any imbalance. The water goes to my outside tank and is used to water some of my emersed/terrestrial plants. So not much is wasted.

I'm quite reactionary towards my plants/tank. When something starts to show or when I get the idea that i should check...then I'd do the necessary tweaking of the nutrients. Usually doing some maintenance before WC and dosing.
