On the 1st day, I travelled almost whole day in Kalimantan Barat to look for a town for a rest. Then, 2nd day, I visited the coastal areas of Kalimantan Barat to look for plants & nice places to photograph.

Local people completely destroyed the Mangrove forest along the coast for firewoods & charcoal. The consequences: the erosion caused by wave has destroyed the houses & coastal roads. Now, people learnt from the mistake & starting to plant Mangrove trees.

A Kerangas forest near the beach. Here, also a terrible place. Another destruction caused by Humans.

This shot was taken in the bus.

On the 3rd day, I went deep into the jungle with my friends. It took us sometime to find the right trail to the summit of a mountain in Kalimantan but unfortunately, it rain heavily around 12pm, so we're forced to get out of the jungle.

The main reason I came back to Kalbar was to search for an unidentified species of Borneo sucker (Gastromyzon spp.) in a river near the coast. However, the water level was too high & somemore it was raining, we couldn't catch any Borneo sucker except the common flying fox (Paracrossochilus sp.)

Hunting for Borneo sucker in the rainy day (visibility is pretty bad):

Shrimp which got hairy & bluish pincers (Macrobrachium sp.)

When the rain stopped in the afternoon, we went to a Kerangas forest to search for wild fighting fish...

A blackwater pond in the disturbed Kerangas forest.

Gotcha! A Betta anabatoides ....common in Kalimantan.

    Betta anabatoides

The following day, we went to a peat swamp but too bad, the water level was too high....so we left the swamp & went to other places.

Then, we visited another disturbed Kerangas forest & found some juvenile Betta edithae on the flooded trail. The fish was hiding near the submerged Sphagnum mosses.
