    Hi Everyone,

Would like to ask experts here if hair grass can be grown without soil, just gravel (5mm ~ 10mm)? Thanks.

1 cm gravel alone, I doubt it, even if it can it probably wont be healthy

1 cm is too shallow, you also probably need base fert or fert tablet or fert stick.

No, what I meant was that the gravel particle size is 5mm ~10mm. The gravel base is 1 inch thick.

You can always try a pot. Doesn't cost much these days.
Everything should be made as simple as possible...but not one bit simpler.

But I hate plants withering and dying in my tank.

So if any bros here have tried successfully, at least I know it is not the gravel's fault should the hair grass die on me.

If you want a proper planted tank, gravel of that size is definitely not good for plant growth. I suggest you change the gravel to the commonly use gravel/soil here, ADA Aquasoil or Lapis sand with base fertiliser.
But if you choose to stick to the current one, you can try. I'm not sure if the gravel can hold the hairgrass down. Rooting might be a problem. But definitely won't die off due to th gravel size. As long as you have sufficient lighting.
