nana, fern, moss, usually most slow growing will do well without fert as long as you have low light as well. It is all depend on the light.

The only plants that will continue to look healthy with no fertilizers -- plastic plants.
You're better off not keeping any plants if you're not planning to feed them.

Ditto to what eric has said. There is no such thing as no need to fertilize as the nutrient has to come from some where be it the tap water or the substrate that you use. The intensity of the light dictates the rate of uptake.

, i guess what he means is minimum liquid ferts dosing. If you are looking for a office tank with little maintenaince, just go with Shadow's recommendation.

    Hi,
    see this tank:

For more information about it see this page: http://flickr.com/photos/17723972@N08/3041120684/.

This tank has no base fetilizer. I just use liquid fertilizer and some clay balls which contain fertilizer. It's easy to push them below the larger plants. So it is possible to maintain a completely planted tank without base fertilizer.

For your discus tank you can use various Echinodorus, java fern, anubias, Bobiltis, Valisneria and even some cryptos. Of course there are hundreds of kinds of stem plants left which I didn't mention. Heteranthera zosterifolia aka star grass is one of the best because it grows well with only liquid fertilizer and low light. All Hygrophila species, e.g. H. polyperma 'rosanervig' or corymbosa 'compacta', grow well without base fertilizer, too.

In a low light tank there is actually no need for additional CO2, too. Just some clay ball or other kinds of concentrated fertilizer for the roots of the larger plants and some liquid fertilizer once a week will do.

    best regards
    Robert

May I find out what brand of clay ball that you are using ? I want to try out because I find that my Tiger lotus Nymphaea lotus (zenkeri) keeps climbing upwards.

    Hi,
the mentioned clay balls were made by JBL. I don't know if this brand is available in Singapore. The are about 1,5cm in diameter and last for a half till one year.

    best regards
