    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

Ok, I check for leaks and realize bubble counter is leaking. hope silicone can fix it.

At the end of the tube, can I just use a air stone ? is it effective to diffuse the Co2 into the water ?

    Thanks

    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

Few tips for longer lasting DIY CO2.
    1. Use warm water of around body temperature, any higher the yeast will die.
    2. Do not cap the bottle immediately. Let it air for 30 minutes or longer. The yeast needs oxygen to breath and takes sometime for its "shell" to soak through before it start eating the sugar and produce CO2. Do not shake the mixture.
    3. When CO2 is slowing down, do NOT shake the mixture, this will only makes the yeast release CO2 too fast. Open the cap to let fresh air in and re-cap.
    4. Re-use the yeast and change only the water with new sugar water. This will be faster.
    5. Yeast to water combination that works so far for me. 1 cup sugar, half tea spoon yeast and a pinch of baking soda. This can last me 3 weeks to 1 month.

If you have high requirement plants or high watt per gallon of more than 2 WPG. DIY CO2 will not be able to sustain the growth. Only CO2 cylinder will works and gives good results.

Use 3 1 way air valve to create enough pressure for the co2 to push out from the co2 diffusor. 1 after the bottle cap. 1 exit from the bubble counter and 1 before the co2 diffusor.

3 sounds a lot leh. I only use 2 and enough to push through the CO2 diffuser. 1 after the cap and 1 built-in on the bubble counter.

    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

If the diffuser is taken out, everything is normal.

CO2 at 1 bubble/s. I think the diffuser cup pad is too fine or the generator can't get enough pressure thru it.

    Any way around ?

Might be better to use super glue to replace the silicon
    more air tight

Ya. I agree. Somewhere must be leaking. Shouldn't be 1 count per sec only.

    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

Bubble counter also from ANS, completely sealed.

Only the generator is DIY, seal with silicone.

The diffuser seems to be the problem, can I use needle to poke hole ? ? LOL

If the DIY generator don't have enough pressure to push the air thru the diffuser.

I think here are a few suggestion, don't know if it will work to diffuse the CO2.

    2. Small sponge filter

    Thanks

    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

If you are using glass ceramic diffuser, you need 1-2 1 way check valve to help build up the pressure in the bottle and tube. When there is enough pressure, water in the tube will be push out first. Check if the water in the tube is slowly being drain out. It helps to remove the diffuser for the water to drain first before putting the diffuser back. A squeeze on the bottle will help to kick start the bubbles too.

    Hi jeff,

I tried squeeze the bottle, the air pressure reach the base of the cup and that's the furthest it can go, even I squeeze bottle also can't get the water out of the cup.

    Give up .. haiz wasted 5.5 . ..

    Re: DIY Co2 Need Help

What is your mixture of water, sugar and yeast? A good culture produces CO2 very fast.
    Did you use dechlorinated water?

Try this if using 1.5 Liter bottle.
    1. Fill bottle with room temp dechlorinated water to half of the bottle label.
    2. Dissolve 1 cup of sugar in a glass of hot water. Pour into bottle till the top of the label. A bit over is ok as long water level is 5 cm from the neck of the bottle. Shake the mixture to mix it well.
    3. Put half tea spoon of yeast into bottle directly. Add a pinch of baking soda if you have. Do not shake the bottle and leave it uncap for 30 mins to 1 hr.
    4. Cap it and you should see bubbles the next morning if you prepare it at night.

Try drain all the water in the tube and leave the diffuser 1 inch below water surface first. Lower it only when there is bubbles starting.
