Different airlines have different policies even if you check the livestock in. Do check.
I recall SIA requires that all livestock to be checked in must have proper documents.

so far the hurdles i see is :

    1. clear thai custom
    2. clear tiger air/air asia/ jet star?
    3. clear sg custom
    4. make sure livestock survives (carry as hand luggage?)

If its fishes then you have a big problems.

There is a restricition on liquids, aresol and gel in hand carried bags into the aircraft cabin.

It has to be contain in no more then 100ml bottles and must fit into a 1 litre zip-lock bag.

I think many people have done so from Hong Kong.
Mayby they can shed some light.
Budget airlines are less thourough in their checks as to what you check in. Don't think its feasible to hand carry into air planes.

Did you declare them or just hide them and pass the customs?

I think should not be a problem. I brought back 2 bags of shrimps from HongKong before. FYI, I hand carried them back.

To what I know, 30 pcs or less in container which is less than 3L of water can pass Singapore custom. But must check in....

please search this forum there have been many posts explaining how to pack and check in your fishes. you must not hand-carry as there is fluid restrictions.

also I would suggest you do not bring crabs as many freshwater crabs may be on the watch list. fish and shrimps no problem but just take care limit to 50 fish and no more than 3 litres of water.

and FWIW, DO NOT bring back orchids and pitcher plants, even the garden hybrid ones, unless you have proper phytocerts. both of these plant groups are on CITES and will be detained if found, and if you happened to bought those wild orchids from the night market you are liable to a serious fine or even jail term.

Last time, I used to hand carry back fighting fishes, but it is hard to even get through the custom nowadays, I reckon is best to check in . I check-in a bag full of water plants.

Re: bringing back crabs, shrimps and fishes from Bangkok

I finally did the chatuchak trip. didn't see any crabs but saw some lobsters, including the dwarf type and white lobster spp (albinos?). The fishes on sale were cheap but rather similar to what we already have over here. didn't find that many shrimps either. there were loads and loads of bettas and you probably would get a good deal on the accessories and feeds.

In the end, i bought some water plants and stowed them in my check-in luggage. I didn't encounter any problem on the way back but then my luggage wasn't checked at sg customs.

    some pics
