Cryptocoryne ciliata is the most common species of Cryptocoryne which can be found from western India to eastern New Guinea. There are two varities of this species in Borneo; Cryptocoryne ciliata var. ciliata and Cryptocoryne ciliata var. latifolia. The first one is more common than the second one.
Below are some pictures taken in the habitat of Cryptocoryne ciliata var. ciliata:

Pix 11: Looks like a perfect habitat for Crypt., but I can't find Crypt. ciliata in this shady mangrove & Nypa forest.
Pix 12: Cryptocoryne ciliata var. latifolia has broader leaves when compared it to var. ciliata. (cultivated specimens)
Pix 13:Unlike Cryptocoryne ciliata var. ciliata , this variety of Cryptocoryne ciliata var. latifolia does not form runner but it has many short & lateral shoots. This shoot is easily breaking off from parent plant:

Thanks for sharing. I have seen C. ciliata many times (or at least I believe it should be C. ciliata) during my field trips but somehow I always can't seemed to spot the flower! I always had the impression that the flower would be rather long and tall (i.e. as tall as the leaves) until I saw your photographs. Haha, will look more carefully at the base of these plants in the future. Do you have some close up shots of Aglaonema griffithii for reference so that I could have a better idea of to differentiate them in the future to prevent wrong ID? Thanks!
