You can try colourful.
Its a strange plant, in some tanks they just melt and die, in others they flourish really well.
They do like strong current though.
There can only be ONE
u can get them at colourful , i saw a few pot in the tank before cny but you need to call before going down. the boss will be away for some time.
I got mine from colorfull and biotop, both try failed miserably.
thanks bros.
i just got my chendol grass (tied on rock) at colourful. the boss says to bury the whole rock rather than to plant it. hope it grows well.
cheers
Hi oldmantan
any updates on your utricularia? is it doing fine?
Colourful boss tell me the same thing - to bury the whole rock... but I thinking of planting them in the substrate...
Initially when I first tried out this plant (only handful amount) in my 5th feet tank, it did not grow fast enough to overcome the aglae infestion issue until I recently I made the effort to make the following changes :
1) ample amount of CO2 with good water circulation (I removed quite of plants that blocked the water outlet)
2) ample dosing of fertilizer regularly (approx every 2-3 days)
3) ample amount of lighting
4) use seachem excel to kill off any aglae infested portion (both plant and sand) during the initial planting until growth rate is seen to improve tremendously.
Now it grows like nobody business without much aglae issue.
Hi Feide,
Basically I use Dr. Mallick's fertilizer and Excel potassium most of the time. Dose about 10~15ml of Mallick's fertilizer every 2 day. Actually this is very subjective. The dosing amount is very dependent on tank's condition. Sometimes more sometimes less.
I will say they do need iron too on the later stage.
Mine was blooming like weed in the first 3~4 months, and then it starts to slow down and shows serious iron deficiency for the following 2 months. I proceed to dose iron once a week and it shows improvement.
But this plant is not good with yamato... >.< it has fine roots that does not hold well, and my fat yamatos will happily uproot them when they either search for food or tunnel around.
thanks tommy and bba
a seasoned staff from Sam Yick also told me that this plant needs very cold water to grow... not sure if he is just trying to get me to buy a chiller.. hehe
Hi Feide,
As long as the temp can be controlled 28 degree and below with a fan for 2 ft tank, you still can grow it very nicely.
hi bros,
was m.i.a for a while.
didnt realise they was such renewed interest in this thread.
anyway, yes the plant is growing very well. booming like a weed like you have mentioned.
i increased the water circulation (i used to restrict the flow), and just changed water on a weekly basis. added some iron, magnesium and potasium with each water change. no other stuff to kill algae though i manually removed some hair algae that grew during the first 2 weeks.
now, am very happy with the way its growing.
ill take some pics in ofc tom and upload them.
cheers
Hi bros
took some pics of the ofc tank which has the Utricularia sp. one of the pic zoomed in on the plant.
feel free to comment.
cheers

oh and to bro feide. yes i buried the whole rock, and it spread onto the substrate. in fact faster than i expected. if u noticed a bare patch at the front of the foreground, i have removed a slab of fissidens to allow the utricularia to grow. my aim is for the plant to cover all foreground which is already covered by the fissidens right now. i reckon the water flow is really important coz this is the diff i made to the tank compared to the last time i tried this plant (which failed).
wish me luck.
