That rule was put in place to safeguard their Annual Book sales (as suspected by some). But that's IAPLC, not AQ ADA. So you guys gonna post your FTS? LOL!

Re: AQ ADA Aquascaping Contest 2009

    Hello from Spain,

I would like to participate in the contest, but that makes the rules need to send a PM with the data...

when I want to do that, appears that:

Pereiro, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page

I guess that's because I do not have a sufficient number of written messages.

Can I send the data differently? To an email for example?

    Thank you very much!

You should read the entry requirement:

    Entry Requirements
    • All members of AquaticQuotient.com are welcomed to the contest.
    • No submission fee is required.
    • We hope to see unreleased work produced by members for this contest.
Each member is allowed to submit a maximum of 1 (one) layout for this contest.
    • Every submitted entry will be automatically submitted for ADA IAPLC 2009 by ADA Singapore. Participants can choose to opt-out from the automatic submission.
    • The use of non-aquatic plants will be judged unfavourably.
    • Please take a picture of the whole aquarium from the front side. (The picture taken from an angle or one showing only part of the tank will also be judged unfavourably.)
    • Photos which are deemed heavily edited using photo editing tools will be judged unfavourably.
    • Tanks from previous ADA IAPLC or AGA or other forum organized competitions will be judged unfavourably.

Re: AQ ADA Aquascaping Contest 2009

Wish I could enter. I thought I had more time.

Anyhow, I have one idea to contribute. For the top placing aquariums, perhaps a short panorama in video would be helpful for verification. Even those without a webcam can borrow one to get the job done. Good photoshoping can work wonders if it's your job to edit images. The news on TV around here does it all the time with still images. It's rare that anybody notices.

As a side note, I'll say that I've been surprised at how the tanks at ADA HQ look in video vs. published works. I guess videos have a hard time exposing in high ASA Isn't that kind of like stone-age photoshop?

Re: AQ ADA Aquascaping Contest 2009

It can help to determine the plants and hardscape are not 'PS'ed in/out' but not in terms of quality. However it may be a little unfair to participants who do not have a decent video camera[or know how to use one properly] as the quality of the video may swing the vote.
It also becomes another thing for participants to learn. Photography is daunting enough for most I've met.[including myself]
I've often wondered why the IAPLC organisers did not ask for 45 degree views as additional 'proof'. It's easy to PS a front view but to make it match for side angle is pretty difficult.

However not to worry. We have a team that are very sharp eyed when it comes to PS'ed pics. Against all odds the cheat is a master PS'er/photographer but lousy aquascaper, he'll unlikely be able to go very far. To have a great 'faked composite pic', you still need great parts shot perfectly to compose.

edit-Just to add, if it's too perfect, it probably is!

Ya, I was thinking of it more for keeping the tanks honest. Even something with a cheap webcam would work.

Side angled pics sound like an easier way of doing it. Getting the perspective right from 3 angles would still make it easier to grow the plants than to cheat.

Anyway, we probably take it more seriously than the IAPLC organisers in some respect.
