Hi everyone and vinz, thanks for your help.
My tank water is finally clear. I raised the kh with sera kh-plus to about 3 to 4 degrees. In the past i was adding sodium bicarbonate, but not knowing how much to add each time, it was difficult to raise the kh. I followed the instructions on the sera product and .. viola, the water became much clearer in the 2 days over the weekend. The ph is around 6.8 - 7.0

eh, not sure if there are any other reasons, maybe it's coincidental .. but i didnt change any other parameters. So it occurs to me that an unbalanced kh-ph-co2 relationship is the cause for the cloudy water :P
I have been making 30% water changes every 2 - 3 days for the past 2 - 3 weeks to no avail of getting rid of the cloudiness. And when i check the kh, it's always 1 degree or less i guess. That's when i was adding sodium bicarbonate to try raise carbonate hardness.

Yes, i guess you need to add the required ingredients for the amount of water changed everytime.

Yes we do... but you add only to the amount of water changed, and not the full tank volume.

chaq: was it a new tank? New tanks usually clears up sooner or later. I had one new tank cleared on next day. Another one clearing after 3 weeks..

I started planting on Dec 2002, almost 3 months already ... but the cloudiness only started in the start/middle of the 2nd month until last week. Hope it stays this way for good :P
Hmmm... and do you know if the cloudiness was greenish or whitish?

Whitish. Vinz told me to see the water in a white background ... i used a styrofoam cup, it's white not green water
Ok so it was a bacterial bloom... sort of guessed it was such as green water wouldn't clear up automatically. Now the bigger question would be why you got a bacterial bloom 2 months into your tank... did you introduce any meds, wash your filter media or do anything prior to the cloudiness which might have killed off your bacterial colony?

I didn't wash any filter media or replace anything inside. Was (and still) using dennerle's e15, v30, s7, tr7. I bought some beneficial bacteria and added twice but stopped when there was no improvement in the water clarity.----------------

thats strange... so you're saying that you didn't do anything, and then one day the water just became cloudy?
forgot to ask, whats the volume of your tank, your CO2 level (in bps) and your PH?

Ya, it happened quite quickly and suddenly. The tank is 4 x 2 x 2 - 300 plus litres. The ph last measured was 6.8 - 7.0. I dunno how to count bps exactly. 2 - 3 bit per second i guess.----------------

Actually Sher, its less than that... a 4x2x2 if you consider filling it to the brim is only a maximum of 432L.----------------

Considering we normally leave 5 cm from the top and have a gravel depth of 10cm, and a glass thickness of 8-10mm, then your volume is only 118(L)x58(W)x45(H) (assuming 10mm glass) which is 307L... Even given that there is some water in the gravel, it probably comes to about 320L.
