I was changing water for my nursery tank and to my pleasant surprise, the Blyxa japonica actually flowers! Its a single spathe consists of 4 white slender, lanced like petals.

What I find incredible is that I do not put any lights, fertilizer consists of just Seachem Flourish, Iron and Excel. There is no CO2 supply and only a small internal filter on the verge of breaking down. Water changing only once every 3 to 4 weeks. The best part is that the plant is floating, not growing from any substrate (tank is bare bottom). Its totally against the knowledge that we know that should make plants grow well and bloom...[] [] []

The only problem is that I got no digital camera to take a picture. But this little flower sure brighten up my day![]

sounds dumb, maybe the plant grew flowers, in hopes of dispersing its seeds/pollen to survive?

not dumb at all... actually many of our plants will flower if given the right conditions... unfortunately most of these conditions require them to grow emerse... and when they flower, very often they can propagate by pollination.
