    hi guys , recently the tank has this layer of protein film on it , i have to use a net to break it up but its like so thick that u can see the film "oily" look . is there anyway to prevent or stop this from happening ?

    There was a earlier thread on this and other than surface skimmers, some solutions were provided.

    a) use of kitchen oil-absorbing paper (don't know what is the exact term)
    b) use non-coloured newspaper

    Both methods used the "media" to gently absorb the film of oil from the surface of the water.

    I prefer the natural way. Pop in a few mollies or platies and no more surface scum!!! And they provided free fries frequently too!!!
