How cloudy? It's not abnormal for new tanks to be cloudy for some time.

We need to know your tank details too. Use the form in this thread.

This is very strange... let me explain.
i have 2 tanks, 1 at home and the other in office. aout 2ft each.the water in both tanks have been very clear for the last 3-4 months until recently i don know what has happened to both tanks, cloudy at the same time until the plants at the back are not visible at all, visibility=0. I did use Dennerle FB7 (filter bacteria) 3 months ago. is it because both of my tanks can't properly function becos i've stopped? i'm trying to get FB7 this weekend and see if it could help. strangely my plants still grows in such cloudy water. if the reason is tothe leak of substrate fertiliser, then i would not agree, the tank in my office does not have any base fertiliser and yet it's cloudy *** my home's. i have never encountered such a big headache before. even algae doesn;t seem to dare to appear or propagate. any one can help me with this? thanks alot

perharps ray, best if u can fill up the form stated by vinz and we see what could have gone wrong... frankly, I doubt its leeching from the substrate.. suspect some imbalance in water chemistry

I had a problem like yours in my 4ft. It was cloudy after I found a dead apisto floating under a E.Cord leaf (maybe for days). It clouded the tank for 2 weeks till it cleared itself. However I'm guessing the cloudiness was probably not as cloudy as yours. Did not manage to figure out what was wrong and tried to rectify the problem due to my illness (flu) at that time.

    Juz sharing my experience
    Cheers!!

    My Cloudy Tank

    Maybe this link would help.

Please take noteof the following too.

    1) Make you your colleagues or yourself didn't add tap water to it without adding anti-chlorine before it. Don't kill those friendly bacteria.

    2) Do not over feed.

    3) How would you no there's no algae when visibility=0? After I cleared my tank's cloudiness, Algaes was discovered all over my plants. I was suspecting mine was an NO3 deficency problem because I had very little fishload in it.Added some SAE and about 100 Malayan Shrimps after the incident.

    4) Conduct a search under cloudiess or cloudy. Many existing info already.
    Cheers and Regards,

    Ray,

I'm guessing that your routine for both tanks are similar? you dose the same stuff, and clean during the same time? My question is, did you clean your filters in the office and home tanks recently (before the cloudiness occured)?

ray i'm having the same problem as you are now ... tank 2.5 mths ... water been crystal clear for the past ... suddenly the cloudiness came in ... not so bad as yours but still cloudy (now like 20% cloudy)

the bacteria should still be there as i always change 30% water and added antichlorine everytime ... the fishes and shrimps, however, are looking fine ... the only thing i changed before the cloudiness is adding Seachem Fe which I've stopped

    i have more fish than you ... 12 rummy, 4 otos, 5 pencilfish, 3 platies & 6 pgymaeus cory ... still wondering why []

Could it be green water? Bacterial bloom shouldn't last that long rite?

joe, its a 1.5ft, small tank. Of course u can smell the odour. []

Once i had a giantic eusteralis sp in my 3ft tank at home, although fully submerged, my whole living room was filled with its fragrance, surprising for me.

    I would go straight for a uvc filter........maybe a UVC-500 for a 2ft tank.....

After Goondoo, I am now a one hundred percent UVC convert.

The problem in question is green water. Might want to try battling conventional methods.

One way is you could throw in a bag of live daphnia. They will eat up the floating algae and later will be food for your fishes.
