if you are talking about the more common one, i am quite successful with it using NISSO volcanic soil.

Got 2 small stems from teos about a month ago, and now i have 8 major stems with a total 6 shoots.

Ha. Coincidentally, 1 hr ago, I've just gone to Biotope and bought some Tonina sp. from Belem.

I will see how they grow in my tank.

Tonina sp!!!One of my favourite plant which is doing well in my tank with ADA amazonia aquasoil. In fact, the trick to cultivate Tonina sp and other demanding South American plants are
    1)low pH substrate(Aquasoil, NVS... etc),
    2)low temparature(the best is 23c to 27c)and
    3)resonable amount of Co2(3-4bps).
In fact, Tonina sp can survive in moderate light level if three of the factors above exist.

(With only 2nd & 3th factors is also possible to cultivate Tonina sp but the outcome is not so good as the leaves will not be so wavy.)

simon, whenever a stem produces a shoot, i cut it when its ard 4cm and replant... now, almost all the stems have shoots growing. One of them got 4, but still very small. What do u mean by bud?

wee, no chiller, only an AC Fan. Temperature reads abt 27, but not very sure if its 27C.

Alfa, agree with you, mine doesnt seems to be that wavy like simon's. After a while, the tip will kinda mutate and then split to form 2 shoots. Quite sian with this, doesnt get the tall feeling.

Anyway, if u have good soil and tank parameters, tonina can really propagte fast. 1 cut into half becomes 2? 2 produces 1 shoot each, and when u trim again, u get 6!?
