    Hi,

My discus spawn and fertilised the eggs. But the eggs do not hatch, all turned moldy. I had put a separation board between the eggs and the parents in case the parents eat the eggs. I had previously experience that the parents just eat the eggs after fertilised. Will the separation of the eggs cause any problem to the hatching? Is there anything should be done after the eggs are fertilised?

    Thanks.

Some will add methylene blue solution after the eggs are laid to prevent fungus.

But, there are cases where the male discus is impotent and thus unable to fertilise the eggs resulting in moldy eggs.

If the fishes are young, then give them some time. They will get it very soon. Make sure you feed them well and keep the water good. Adding methylene blue works very well for me, like jhseah has pointed out. Did you use wire mesh to cover the eggs? That should be alright.

Hi both, thanks for your advice. I will try the solution next time.

The eggs are fertilised as the color is dark orange, unlike previously where the eggs are still white. So I guess the eggs are being fertilised. For the wire mesh, I used those kind of transparent separator board, I only had that at that time. Is it ok? What kind of wire mesh should I use? Covering up the eggs will not cause any harm, right? When I use the separator board to separate the eggs, the parents stay at the board side near to the eggs, will the separation cause them to discard the eggs?

    Thanks.

    Congrats on your fert eggs!!!

What kind of transparent separator board? Use for separating Luohan one is not so good because the parents will use their fins to fan the eggs as circulation.

It depends where your pair laid their eggs.

If its on those trianglar slating tiles or those commercial cone, you can get from the fish shop, they should have the wire mesh custom made for them.

On the other hand, if lay on the glass or pipe surfaces, there is little you can do with the wire mesh.
Quite a number of parents don't require wire mesh as they do not eat the eggs. So, even you do not have wire mesh, the eggs could be fine.
