Ancistrus sp.
1) Cost less than $20
2) Better algae cleaner than oto. Do not munch java moss. calm and tranquil for planted tank
3) Adult size is 4" normally
I hope this help.
Hi, i intend to get some plecos for my 5 footer planted arowana tank but i am unfamiliar in pleco. Still remember last week i ask auntie how much the L46 cost, i almost dropped my jaw when she said $400. Pleco almost cost as much as an aro...
Enough nagging, my questions are:
1) Any cheaper pleco to recommend? (prefer less than $20)
2) suitable for planted?
3) best if size does not exceed 4 inch
Thanks.

Sounds like a tricky issue. Arowana's might make food of an ancistrus, but larger plecos can go through dense plants like a chainsaw. If you're trying to stay on the safe side, choose 2 out of 3; plecos, plants or arowana. planetcatfish.com has a good L-number catalogue that lets you search by size, though the dietary notes are scant.

That ancistrus is also known as a Bristlenose. If your arowana is large, you might get away with Malayan shrimp. Yes, I'm not kidding. The shrimp will mostly hide from view, while the aro occupy the top level. Most small algae eating fish will end up as a meal or sport for the aro while the bigger ones will eat your plants.
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
c328 has plenty of normal and albino 1 inch common BN..
