Used to keep crs thus i have a bottle of old sea mud powder, wondering if i can put them into my tank to create better water conditions for apistos?
Also, recently i partition my tank into 2 to keep 2 different breeds of apistos. The partition i used is transparent and i realized the apistos started flaring more. They were actually flaring at the apistos at the other side of the partition.I was wondering if i should change the partition to solid black or should i keep it this way? (In a way it is good, cause i like to see them flaring, the colours and finnage, but let's talk about long term growth here!)

just for the fun of it.
Guess which apisto group this fish belong to? (*Note: this fish is not mine!)
Anyway, this website is not bad, tells you the male and female of quite a variety of apistos. Just click under ----Fiches Apisto and Co----

They even have pictures of the rare Apistogramma sp. "JuruaII", a plain looking apisto(to me) which i have yet to know how to appreciate.

Marle, the stunning part is the female. I have never seen a female apisto that good looking. She almost looks like something out of Lake Malawi.
Now, as for the colors, I've been keeping fish for about 6 years now. I can't say I appreciate plainness. I enjoy complexity in form and pattern with subdued colors, but not homogeneous brown lumps. I will not cultivate a pallet for coffee beans harvested from civet feces because they're rare, natural or against societal standards. I would not think it anything less than snobbery to do so. For anyone who would care to indulge, go right ahead:

II is usually used to denote a form II, the domesticated variant of the species which may have redder fins, face etc. For example, hongsloi II, viejita II.

Haha, trying to be funny right. Thats not what i meant!
Anyway, the blue on your Jura is beautiful, nice shade of light complentary colours!
Additionally to tonicwater's question, which species of Apisto. has the highest commanding price tag currently in the market now? And why?

If you guys are keen on cichlid books, here are the reviews.
http://www.dwarfcichlid.com/Book_reviews.php
I personally find Mergus Cichlid Atlas Vol 1/2 and South American Dwarf Cichlids more interesting judging primarily from the reviews.

Apisto Eggs

"Sex differentiation in the offspring of all the Apistogramma species investigated to date is controlled in the main by two environmental factors: temperature is the dominant controlling factor, the pH value a co-factor which becomes dominant within a particular temperature range.
High temperatures (29deg) and low pH (<6) encourage the determination of male offspring. While low temperatures (23deg) and high pH values (>6) favour the determination of female offspring."
1) So, for a more equal sex ratio of offsprings, i guess the ideal is about 26 degrees at pH 6?
2) Considering Singapore's climate, will it be reasonable to quote we be able to get an equal sex ratio at 29degrees at pH 6.5? (Are Apistos able to breed at such conditions? If so, what about the harder to breed species like elizabethae, mendenzi?)
Recently, bought a pair of Bits from a nice local breeder. He mentioned he was using ADA Africana with ketapang leaves and peat. The sex ratio of offsprings favoured males.
Will very much appreciate if those who were able to breed out an equal sex ratio to share their experiences!

For my diplos. Africana plus peat = more females. Room temp.
