dragon,
maybe you could describe the symptoms so that we can give you opinions as to whether it is chilondella? If it is, maybe DEA would like to comment... I think he has used salt to treat this before... (not 100% sure though)
hi all,
i am currently fighting an unknown disease in my 2.5 ft, 1yr plus tank...
loss a total of about of about 20 cardinal tetra, rummynose and whitecloud in a space of four days...
from the archive articles, it seem like the cause is the deadly chilodonella disease.. exactly the same syptom..
do the disease only attack the tetra family? my group of zebra fish and short-tail are not affected at all.. if that the case, i might just want to isolate the remaining tetra (about 10) from the main tank to treat them separately...
2tbsp to 5 gallons is the dosage for treating the disease, if i need to treat the whole tank, can my yamato take that kind of salt-bath?
kindly advice.

the syptom is exactly the same as the link recommend by bclee,
an extract from the link:
The "heart-shaped" organism Chilodonella makes the skin look cloudily and caused large, whitish, transparent, stains of thickened mucous membrane measuring 1 - 3 cm. The fish are ill and scrub themselves. If the disease is not treated, the stains on the skin is slimy, white and thickened. The fish now stand and sway in the water flow of the filter and become more and more apathetic.
i also noticed that the disease strike very fast, at the morning no sign at all, but when i get back from work at around 7pm... can see some of them floating liao..
so sad, as most the fish have been with me for almost 1yr liao..
i will get the sera costapur product to treat the fish...
Hi Dragon
the diease in question is one of the most hated one in my books.....as you have sadly experience now, it hits and hits very fast. To my experience, it is not host specific and will attack a species at a time. This means that isolation is not a good idea as it is already in the water system.
Salt treatment at 3 to 5gallon for 21days is a good first line remedy for Chilodonella but do still expect some of your fish to be taken out even when the salt dosage is in.
Yamatoes will be pretty okay with the treatment.

The title below my name does not make me a guru...listen at your own risk!...
don't look for the stains
look for swelling and pointed scales next to the gills
if they are present, and your fish are having difficulty breathing with their gills distended, odds are you have chilodonella
by the time you see ONE fish affected, all your fish are affected
treat the whole tank
or catch ALL the fish, bar none, and treat them in a hospital tank
salt at 3 tbsp per ~20l MIGHT help to stop it
other than that, coppersafe could halt it too
but chances aren't good
cross your fingers
