Cloudy as in the water looks "whitish"?
Try adding more fine filter media in your filter.
My tank is already 9 months old.. definatley cycled.. my CRS are breeding.. only plants/CRS and otto..
Weekly 20% water change.
however, the water always looks cloudy. was thinking of adding carbon media into my canister filter. will it affect my precious CRS?
My main objective is to get rid of the cloudy look... pls help...

thanks. but can you recommend what sort of fine media? currently mine consist of 2 layer of lava stone-small size, and 1 layer of ceremic (hollow inthe centre).
is it greenish? bacteria bloom should not happen on 9 months old tank
Blumarine, do you have fine white floss in your filter? That would help with trapping of the smaller particles.
yes, i do have the piece of fine white floss..
bacteria bloom? is it possible .. jst whiteish colour. never seems to clear even with 20% water change weekly.. attached a pic for advise, thanks.

Hm...same here with my 3ft. I've bought some fine white filter and a carbon active to put in this weekend. Hope it'll help. I've also consulted lfs boss and was told to try stop feeding for 2 days and then WC. After WC, not to switch on lights for a day.
I used to have cloudy water for years until I install a UV filter recently.
basically UV will kill bacteria (if bacteria bloom) or algae (if green water)
Hi
This cloudyness can happen when the good bacteria in your filter dies and get washed out from the canister during filtration. My 6 footer also sometimes suffer from this if especially when I wash my canister every 6 months.
It takes sometimes a few days to clear up...sometimes I put algae away chemical and the tank water becomes crystal clear in less than 24hours.
i Cant put in any chemical type of agent as i am worried my CRS cannot take it. i did a 20% WC, stopped feeding 2 days, and black out, still didn't work for my tank , water is still whitish..
try add floating plant like fogbit, it should help absorb amonia.
when you say active carbon, do you also mean charcoal (those that we put into the filter?)
Have any idea crystal red shrimp can adapt to it?
bought a UV device.. does anyone knows how long should i keep the UV on? the package does not have any instructions on it..
