    Hi,

In my 1ft tank setup, why does the mosses and other small plant always got infected with hair algae?? I have thrown all the infested plants and clean the whole tank, re-setup again, a few times, but everytime the hair algae will return. It's a non-Co2 tank.
I am using a 24W PL lamp. Lighting too strong?

Anyway to get rid of these hair algae?

    Thanks

Hi there, when u revamp your tank, did you used back the same plants? try treating the plants with bleach, soak them in bleach and wash clean before replanting them..

I also had the same problem recently but I did a massive water change and total black-out for 2 days and the hair algae miraculously disappeared..

Uou have to manually remove as much hair algae first, then throw in many algae eating shrimps, do a total black out, large water change... and hope for the best... haha

hi, did you dose fertilisers? could be nutrient imbalance.

i also have some in my tank where water circulation is poor, ie. the other end of the tank where circulation from my HOF cannot reach .
the algae has been reduced with my rocket shrimps munching on them , but not totally removed. rocket shrimps like vegetable stuff, so they will eat, but sakuras or tigers will not help much with this algae.
[but if you have myriophyllum or hornwort, the rockets will also eat until almost bold ]

found this algae guide for reference:

24w is too strong unless you are growing glosso, HC or any really light demanding plants.

For my one feet tank, I am only using 9w of light. Daily dose of ADA step 2, 1ml and Excel 1ml. No algae in the last 3 months.
