    choked with algae?
    soak in bleach.
then wash it with plenty of water and anti chlorine.

Bleach is available from your supermarkets, and hydrogen peroxide from your pharmacies... both can be bought off the shelf... Peroxide may be the safer to try as a good rinse after treatment should render it safe for use... with bleach you need to make sure residual chlorine is removed before using your diffusor again. Having said that, I used bleach in the past without problems... but I soaked the items overnight in water + lots of anti-chlorine before reuse.

soak until your diffuser goes back to the original colour.
    which should be white.
soaking for a day should be sufficient.
just make sure that the diffuser is cleaned of bleach.
    yes! household bleach will do.
