i've got matten hamburger filters.
And I never wash my filters
i have not wash for over a year
how can we tell when our filters need a wash. it is just washing the sponge or do u also need to wash the gravel?
I wash my sponge about 2 months once and usually just rinse media with tank water. And hoses about 4 months once.
Wow 1Eddy1 not washing it for a year, wouldnt the filter/tank stink??
Hi Syburn, i dont think theres a set time to when you should wash your filter, id wash mine when i feel theres a need to haha
Wash at least 3 months once if you can. Else within 6 months.
I only wash my cannister filter once every 3-4 months.
But do WC every 1-2 months depending on the load.
If the load is low, I may only wash the cannister half yearly.
whenever im doing WC?
Haha thumbs up to you 1Eddy1. Care to share the filter and filter media you are using to run your setups?
4-6 months for my 2215. I think you shouldn't wash it too often as it will affect the beneficial bacteria. Just my two cents.
Once a year. In fact, I just washed it over the weekend. Smell wasn't so bad.
i have one filter that i have not washed for around 16 months. Generally, I wash it once every 6 months and change filter media (except wool) once every 2 years or so.

If you're treating your tank for white spot disease, would you wash your filters more frequently?
Hi KWK,
Its not necessary to wash your filters more frequently( i'd only wash them after i've cured the whitespot ), just get a good anti-ich med/use aquarium salt and heated water of 28-30 deg and you're good to go. Do a 20% water change every other day and check if the method you are using is safe for your fish. Good luck
in singapore ,30 deg seems to be not warm to my finger, so i set it at abt 32. Water change abt 20 % daily.
Thats abt it.
if we wash the filter during sickness time ,then we are adding too many changes to the fish environment at one go which may not be good for the sick fish.
If white spot or ick, make sure you dont share the same equipment over different tanks.
wash my 2213 every 6 month with tank water..include the hose too and change filter wool
