I have revamped my 4ft tank just weeks ago on 7th April, with all new soil and plants.
The tank is heavy planted with new plant. Today, I found Black Brush Algae again in the tank.

    My tank setting
    1) 4 X 2 X 2 – with 4ft X 6 tubes T5 light X 54W – light on from 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm.
    2) Chillier set at 27ēC
    3) CO2 – 1s per bubble
    4) PH maintaining at 6.81
    5) Tank with abt 100pcs of Tatra and Sakura shrimps only

Please advise how can I get rid of it?? Can Seacham Excel works and it purposes? Please help ….

cut the effected area, spot treatment with excell can also help and increase your CO2 level. 1 bubble per second is way too low for tank size.

yes, your CO2 is way too low for 4ft tank. Get drop checker to measure it properly. you need about 25-30ppm

Excel primary component is Polycycloglutaracetal which is derive from Gluteraldehyde which is usually use for sterilizing medical instument.

My co2 is using with solenoid and will on turn on when the lighting is on.
Will this be sufficient or should i turn it on for 24hrs?

You will probably need to increase your bubbling rate. How are your dissolving the CO2? That is a factor to be considered also.

You will need to measure the water pH and KH and compare it against a chart to get an indication of your CO2 PPM.

the best is do the spot treatment using syringe for 3 days. It should turn white after than. By the way turn off you filter during treatment maybe for 30 minutes. By the way don't overdose more than 2 times the recomended dossage, otherwise your shrimps start dying

not really, the concentration probably will drop by the time plant start photosynthesis unless you keep up the supply.

kH/pH cart is not the best way to measure CO2 because soil, wood, etc can alter water pH

My thanks for the assistance. I will try adjusting the CO2 and add the Excel by today.

How long do the treatment takes?

Try to apply direct on the immediate area and you should see it turning red within a few hours if not by next day, I normally do this cycle once every 2 days till the BBA wipe out.

Do not need to turn on CO2 for 24hr, the plants and fishes also need to take a break.

Do i need to do W/C after the treatment?

You have to keep an eye on the tank to ensure that the dosing is not affecting other fauna and fish too. Yes, water to be done once the BBA terminated, during the course if you see the fuana and fishes are not doing well you have to change some water to balance the water parameter.

I'd suggest lowering your lighting wattage as well. That seems like a lot of wattage for a 4ft tank imho. Lighting plays a part in BBA as more light = more growth = faster usage of CO2 = more problems with CO2 stability.

    Hi All,

Many thanks for your advised given.
For the past one week, i have increased the CO2 to 30ppm, reduced thelighting wattage, and added Excel daily.

Wow! the BBA is gone and the plant is shoot up very fast and i can see photosynthesis too.

Thanks again .... u can view the setup of my tank.

Bro, well done and now you have to keep a close watch on your Excel dosing and CO2 bubble count to keep the parameter in good balance to upkeep the tank.

I have stopped the Excel dosing. Will the BBA return by doing so?
