me thinks its not a good sign... is your tank newly setup?
Brought some new otos recently but last 2 days, notice 2 of the otos I brought kept "fainting" ie. them swam and then sort of drop to the bottom of the tank, touch them then they seems ok for a time and it starts again.... what happen? never seen anything like it before.

Allen
Do they flip over? Red gills? How old is your tank? Definitely not a good sign.
... always look at the bright side of life
Ken, I also experience this. Bought 8 Oto from Gan's last Saturday. Last night noticed 2 of them with this behaviour. They can still suck on the leaves/glass but when they let go, they drop upside-down to the bottom. After that they try to make another dash to something for support.
My tank is 1.5 months and just treated for BGA. The previous single Oto in there still OK. All other Cardinals/ Neons/ Apistos are perfectly OK.
I thought I was the only one...

Juggler's tanks
fei mao?
you bought from the same place also ah?
erm ... sorry har ... but to my limited knowledge ... this is not a good sign ... do watch them carefully, see if there are any sign of distress or injury. never QT?

Mine too... I just got them last Sat too.
They just swim up the surface then free-fall to the bottom.
I had changed 25% of my tank's water 3 days before getting the otos and no other fishes were exhibiting any illness.
Wondering what is this problem?
Me too!!! I got them from Gans on Sunday. Same problem.
Noticed that some of the tails are deformed. Or rather no formed completely.
Now only 6 left and counting.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
hmmm.... mine too, i got 10 from Gan... need to check with a friend whom help me purchase them if he got the same problem.[]
Anyway, 2 already died on Monday and Wednesday respectively...[] [] []
maybe its something to do with the batch? or gan's tank?
Hi
I also have this prob! Benny u rem that i bought my ottos wit u. I bought 3 and i saw 1 of them is like half conscious and when i touched it, it can still swim but after a while, up the lorry! The other 2 is missing .. guess there is not much hope. I only left 2 which i bought fr somewhere b4 i bought those fr Gan and is still healthy n fat. Wonder y! []
dunno about you guys
but i never buy otos when the shipment just comes in
i'd rather wait for 2 wks and take the healthy survivors
just a thought
Yimin, I think that shipment is more than a week, maybe two, when I bought. Usually he will advise us that they are not stable yet to be sold. Since he sells to us, must be OK, right?

My tank is not new...
YES! I bought these from Gan last Saturday, 10 of them, this morning noticed another one that is like wat you guys said "FREE FALLING!"
It's actually his brother who sold us the fish, my friend noticed one that was sort of fainting in the bucket and he excahnge for me...... wat's going on??
It seems that our fish are from the same batch???
...I love rubies too ...
Ken
I remember meet ngSherwin, Simon & David there as well, i think he bought some too, wonder if he had any problems?
Benny— Ya, I noticed the tails are kinda of chewed off, I suppose that will grow back...
...I love rubies too ...
Ken
could be related to my problem (ie: mine is advanced stage) check the med board.
---
the only things I bought from gan last week was. 3 corydoras leucomelas and 2 corydoras adolfoi.
---
other things bought that week.
2 corydoras habrosos from petmart
6 marbled hatchets from petmart
3 corydoras macropterus from chongsua
2 corydoras schwartzi from that fish and pet place.
---
so last week was unusual for me due to the multiple source of imports.
check your other fish.
--
the possibility is there for pathogen transfer due to the common nets used.
bought 5 fr pet mart 2 weeks ago. one of them have the same behaviour for about 2 days. But the 5 of them including the existing 10 is fine till todate.
Have the same problem from the first batch. And noticed that those affected are the smaller one.
I think once they are adjusted to your tank water condition, then they should be fine.
Drop out of otos during introduction stage is not uncommon. A long and slow acclimatisation and dimming of lights will reduce the stress. I have some drop out from my first 2 batch of otos... but finally my last batch of 4... no casualties.
BC
wonder if it 's due to the batch or the acclimatisation of the otos ... anyone's comments?
I just asked a friend who got the otos the same time as me...
His are doing well; but he is not keeping them in a planted tank...
Acclimatization methods should be the same between us.
Wonder if these fishes are sensitive to the fertilizers?
