Depends on the purpose of lowering the pH.
If for CRS most people use soil substrate.
Cheers

are u rearing shrimps that require low pH?
if that is the case, then you should use ADA Aquasoil or GEX Plant Soil, as they reduces the pH of your tank water to low 6s, and maintains the pH there, suitable for CRS especially..
i used peat granules and ketapang leaves to lower ph ^^
If pH is what you focus on only and not caring about mineral content of water, use distilled or RO water with minimal pH buffering ability with whatever method you are using now, you will definately see a marked improvement in result, but you will probably see a small hole in your pocket too! Haha.
thanks guys for all ur advices
Singapore water from the tap is about 7, curious on how come yours is 8.
Do you have coral chip in the system?

another method i've read online, adding Sodium bisulphate.
no sure where in singapore selling
i not sure also but now the ph drops to 7.5 weird.
Don't forget to calibrate your ph meter, may be thats the main problem.
singapore tap water isnt the same everywhere. my area (seletar) has tap water that is rarely below 7.5, or at least from the tap i get it. it can be due to piping or certain things it picks up on the way. personally i try not to use peat because i like crystal clear water , so while aging water i'll add a small amount of phDown solution, and i do at least 10% WC a day, 20-30% twice a week. manages to get it down i guess.
Gex plant soil, bro.
coral chips if used in big tanks((=
use soil... like gex brand. more stable ph level and lower your ph as well.
i did abit of research coral chip is meant to keep ph stable but also higher.
tried leave last time, effect does not last.
DW also can bring ph down but not sure how stable.
i use baking soda.. it lowers till around 8.2 max..
