I see quite a few of the members here have an aro in a planted tank. I am currently trying to get 1 done up. What I have done so far is to get the tank and have it planted. Probably get the aro in a few weeks time. Any advice??

Choose low light plants. Get hardy ones that can grow fast.

Also good to have some tall plants as shade for your aro. If not, it's likely to have a dark top.

BTW, what kind of aro are you getting?

As for tankmates, you'd have to see the temperament of your aro. Some tolerates tankmates, while others see tankmates as food and will not tolerate any other living thing in their territory at all.

For algae crew, probably have to try SAEs, otos and keep your fingers crossed No point trying yamatoes as they'll become expensive feeders soon enough

    Kelvin (right?),

Saw your post on AC, but didn't have time to reply...

    Anyway, for acronyms, look here.

For more about Aro in planted tanks, search AQ for "arowana"... Between Vican, myself, Hobbit6003 and a few others, there's quite a bit of info in here.

Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions.

I'll see if I can add more later.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Good luck hunting for your RTG.
Heard that they are in short supply nowadays because of ex-LH owners switching to aros.

DFI recently has a interesting crossbreed of a cross back and RTG going for $788-888. From the looks of things, might just turn out to be a xback.
You can view this kinda fish at C328. Can also see the normal RTGs, panda golds at C328 also.

But, setup your tank before checking out the aro shops. You might just want to get on impulse if you see a nice pc

    Hi,

Banjar red is supposed to be a separate type from a true grade 1 red, but some LFS use it for their 1.5 reds. When fully grown, the body will not turn red. Normal cost is around $200

Panda red are the no. 1 reds from Panda Aquatics, the local farm that breeds and sells their own aro.

Most better reds are generally known as No 1 reds. They include chilli reds, blood reds. Some marketing savy farms will call them by special names, eg Violet fusion super reds (supposed specially selected super reds),Panda reds, blood reds, chilli reds.

Grade 2 reds and grade 1 reds are actually hybrids of grade 1 reds with green aro, yellow tail etc. Most of them will lose the redness in their tails as they age even though they look like a grade 1 red when juvenile

I suppose that will really depend on what you want. I would really like to have a VFSR but the price puts me off. Price plays a big part too.

An RTG is somewhat felt as the most value for $$ cos its only around $400 as compared to $1-2k for a Super Red.

DFI practices closed door policy. They do not entertain walk-ins. Instead, you'd have to get from some LFS that sell their stock.

    Joy Access - Yishun
    C328 - Clementi
Pet Provision - 305 Changi Rd

Panda aquatics is normally opened to public, not too sure why it's closed when you visited them. I bought my panda gold from them.

Panda reds should cost $998-$1200. The current stock of panda reds at C328 seems very good. For cheaper panda reds, you can try

Lam Hong - Ang Mo Kio
Pro Pet Aquarium - Tampines 201E.

But not too sure if the reds at these 2 places are the same batch.
It's no use buying the brand name of the farm as each batch varies. Even within the same batch, the quality can vary quite a bit

Vican has provided you most of the better LFS dealing with Aros in Singapore. Perhaps if you need more information you can visit www.arofanatics.com or www.arowanaclub.com
