Shedding leaves

Hi guys, do you think lack of CO2 can lead to plants shedding leaves? My CO2 supply run out last Thursday, so my tank was running without the gas till today. I noticed my hygrophila shedding lots of leaves. I also have floating plants covering 2/3 of the water surface, can this also partly contribute to the problem?

I never have such drastic reaction.

Usually when I run out of CO2. I reduce my lighting so as to reduce the growth and the demand on CO2 until I top up my CO2 again.

The last time my co2 ran out, nothing really happened except a major attack by BBA. No shedding of leaves though.
