lower leaves rotting? havent encounter that for my tonina.. except they get leggy when the canopy (formed by the crowns several stems) gets thick.

They do indeed live up their name, really look like green suns.

From what I read, Simon..It says phosphorus deficiency....
I dun think so...cos I have BBA a bit here n there on substrate....
BBA thrive on phosphorus... right? The rotala indica beside it is growing pretty well...

My tonina fluviatilis also did not do well. The bottom leaves turn yellow/brown and died. Some new leaves on the top looks okay but growing very slowly.

According to Chuck's page, it seems like Nitrogen deficiency but I have been dosing N and K. I don't think is N as my Elatine is doing great (known of N hungry).

Read somewhere that Tonina requires very low KH (~2dKH). Is it true?

My tank's KH is around 4-5 dKH. PH between 6.5-7.0

If I'm not wrong, NO3 is quite low. I had Elatine tiadra too and the NO3 was as los as 5ppm. Suspect the E.tiandra sucked up N like crazy. So, I'm not suprise the tank is N deficient.
    Cheers!!

ADA amazonia soil and other artificial soil such as Nisso Volcanic Soil etc are the key success to Tonina sp and other south america plants as they prefer low pH substrate. .IMO, nutient deficiency seldom encountered by Tonina sp.

Good thing always come from the "bottom".....i didn't say that Tonina sp and other south america plants won't survive in normal gravel, but the artificial soil will make the cultivation of Tonina sp a breeze.
