looking for Pseudomugil gertrudae

Hi all,

I used to maintain a small school of these P. gertrudae but haven't seen them around since the LH craze.

Would want to included these unimposing fishes to my pending killietank. TIA for any leads.

Back to the P. gertrudae...
I found a site showing how magnificent this little bugger can get and what you see is a male in prime condition, proudly displaying finage that shows it's 'rainbow-fish' heritage.

It's extremely peaceful and makes a good candidate for the planted community tank and unlike other rainbowfishes, this bugger will do well in soft-acidic to neutral waters.

Let's see if anyone else knows what I'm talking about...

You are right! I'm the bird man[] . Regarding the fish you are looking for, never see such stunning fish in my life in S'pore before[] . If not mistaken, saw P. furcatus in lfs like Ben at Tiong Bahru way back..

Hey, buddy,

That fish is also known as a Gertrude's Blue-eye. I kept them once and managed to raise a few fry. They are quite easy to breed actually. Just give them plenty of Java Moss and wait for the fry to appear.

I remember I bought the fish from Karin Leow. But that was many years ago. She's now somewhere at Simon Lane.

Yup! It's Gertrude's or Spotted Blue-eye! Frys are ridiculously small and does best with infusoria initially. These fellas will join my killies (Ap. australes) and the long finnage White Cloud minnows (yes!! the long fins which were popular in the '70s!).

Do you know Karin's shop's name? I could probably find it in the LFS listing.

I think her shop is called Far East Aquatics or something. But she probably won't have the fish now and also probably not know what you are talking about if you enquire about Gertrude's Blue-eye over the phone. I think your best chance would be to try Keong Seong at Block 22 Havelock Road or the Clementi fish shop at Clementi Ave 2. The former always have Lampeyes (which are close cousins of Gertrude's Blue-eyes) and the latter always has a great variety of fish. But neither of them would be able to tell you what's a Gertrude's Blue-eye, I'm quite sure of that. They may have the fish but they probably won't know its common name, much less its scientific name.
