Water was before or after the water change? Did you change the water for the other fire eel? Which tank did you change water first?
Hi all, I have 2 fire eels (about 6 inch) each in a species tank with an Oto. One of my eels suddenly went whack just now and started darting from side to side in the tank. I seemed quite spooked out.
Did a 40% water change this morning. All water parameters are in place. Water is kept slightly soft. 2 teaspoons of aquarium salt to 10 gallons for hygeine (has always been kept at this level)
I checked for possible ich / skin wounds but there aren't any. No sharp stuff in my tank either.
Anyone could suggest what could have happened that spooked the eel and made it panic? Cos I don't think that kinda behaviour's very natural.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Both are in the same tank. Water was after the change. Only one eel went crazy but they are both fine now. Just wanna know how come such a thing happens o.O
Two possibilites:
- Chemical irritation.
- Sudden change in other water conditions.
No one has substantiated it, but it seems there was arise in such cases after NeWater was introduced into the domestic water supply.
I suggest you use agd and treated water for water change.
