    Hi Bros.....
I'm currently having two canister filter for my planted tank.....
The diff is one canister with only cotton and bacteria ring as media while the other one with volcano rocks & another media on top of cotton and bacteria ring....

Finding is the tank with the extra media seems to be having slower plant growth than the tank with canister filter (cotton & bacteria ring).

Can you guys please confirm on this?

Normally what media used for the canister filter other than the cotton/wool?

Do share with me the media you used for the canister filter in planted tank.

    Thanks.

What is the another media that you are using in the tank with slower plant growth?

By the way, all plant species, lightings, temperature, co2 is the same for both tank?

    Hi Lorba.
The other media is the volcanic rocks and charcoal.

I also saw some post that charcoal can be toxic to planted tank after some time.
    Any comment on this?

    As for the :
    1. Plant species : same
    2. Lighthings : brighter than the faster plant grow tank (72W)
    3. No CO2 for the faster plant grow tank.

    Thanks.

Very complex. First of all Charcoal might/will absorb the nutrient thus stun you plan growth. Secondly, might be the plan in less light look like grow faster but in fact it trying to reach the light. Thirdly are you using the same substrate for both tank?

there are many possibility best if you can post both tank spec
