oops! I think this Q should be posted under 'equipment'.
One typo... it's D-1 not DL.

    Moved to Equipment forum...
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

The one is Soon Heng is finally sold. Cost about S$200+, but the diatom powder is very difficult to find.

    Benny,

I'm contemplating a flow-thru system for my killie rack and with the claimed 'polishing power' of diatomaceous earth being able to filter out ick, I reckon it'll work better than the traditional overflow/sump method.

The Vortex I'm looking at are 110v units and will work locally, albeit with a step-down tranny and with so many online stores these days, buying diatomaceous media isn't the problem (the shipping cost IS !).

    A google search brings up more than juzt a few relevant hits and pricing ain't too bad;
    http://www.petmeister.com/cat48_1.htm
    http://www.petsmart.com/fish/shoppin...ct_16187.shtml
    http://futurepet.com/Diatom_Filter.htm
    etc etc

At worst, if the vortex plan doesn't work out while it's on the drawing board, I'll just try and use a sump instead... I just hope my aging eheim pump is able to deal with a 6foot overhead.

    Regards,
    Ronnie

Vortex comes in 220v option too. No need for Step up transformer.

the way I see it. all you need is the diatomaceous earth and a fine micron bag for keeping it in.
then combined with a liberty or dolphin type HOT filter, should be able to rig up one. (unless you need a high input flow to force the water through the media) (eg: like RO water needs high pressure on one side and lower pressure on the other to force water through the membrane...)

guess if you have access tot he diamtomaceous earth you can try out before buying the vortex filters?
