Have to thank Wynx for taking these pics today.

The tank is approx 2.5mth old. Riccia has been retied recently and I've added some pebbles to weigh the meshes down (hope it helps). MMs are not growing as fast as i would like them to. Yah, i know the airstone is an eye sore and the hygrophilia looked a bit out of place ... Any suggestions on how to improve the look?

Need some help from moss specialists : Is this xmas moss? All the discussions on xmas, taiwan, triangular moss left me a bit confused. []

    looks like xmas moss.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

This is xmas moss as named by Timebomb and generally recognised. Sam's Pet and Aquarium has another version which grows upwards, which they also call xmas moss.

I like the tank, pleasing to the eye and natural. Don't see any out of place Hygrophilia. Do you mean (what looks to me like) H. stricta or the H. difformis (or is it Ceratopteris?) in the back.

Why not hide the airstone (for CO2?) on the left side, behind the taller plants?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Look nice but I find it a bit too green. Maybe you could add some red plants. You're thermometer is errrr..... big. Looks abit weird, IMO. Maybe you want to relocate to somewehre less obvious while still able to view the temp.

Other than that, your tank looks good evventhough it's your 1st attampt. Your plants looks healthy and nice.

Keep it up and most important, have fun.
    Cheers!!

    Thanks for the encouragement!

Yup, it's Ceratopteris thalictroides at the back ... Hygrophilia (corymbosa "Stricta"?) are the ones in front of the Ceratopteris (Used them both as my starter plants) ... Have to trim both down every other week cos they tend to create a huge canopy that prevents light from getting to my slow growing MMs.

I believe that some of my moss look brown because the top-most layer is greener compared to when i 1st bought them. The greener moss usually start pearling after 4-5hrs of lights.

My only problem is that thread algae seems to like the moss a lot. I have a total of 18 pencilfishes (golden, rocket-tail and dwarf) and i'm relying on them to keep their house in order (not too gd at the moment cos i may be overfeeding them).

While i do not trim my moss (dunno how to do it), i do pull out the stringy 1s once in a while and put them in a small plastic tank (i use it to quarantine newly bought fishes - "ich"phobia). At times, the moss is completely brown when i pull them out but they seem to turn greener after a while (still look stringy though). The plastic tank has no light, CO2 and definitely no fert. Dunno what to make of this observation yet.
