Hi Guys. Sharing a shot I recently took in India. Was busy shooting a blue
damsel beside a stream when I noticed this large Dragonfly hovering over
the water, stopping in mid-air or a few seconds and then moving to
another area. Probably there for a drink. I took some shots of the
dragonfly in flight. The shots may not look that good, though.

Not sure about the species again, and this particular one seems to have
eyes that look different from other dragons. Here's another Shot.

Hope you liked it! Was a lucky time for me!

nice shot! what cam did you use there is no EXIF?
I think both are the same species based on the thorax patterns. eyes can be tricky due to reflection of the flash.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Nice shots. Bugs in action is usually not easy to shoot and you do well here.

This kind of dragonflies are quite common in Malaysia . Used to catch lot of them during my childhood kampung days.

    Re: Dragonfly in Flight

Thanks guys for your kind comments...

Hwchoy, I used a simple Digital Cam for these shots, a Casio EX-Z1200. And, actually
these two shots are actually of the same individual dragonfly! What I meant was that
I don't know the species, and that this species seems to have eyes that look slightly
    diff. from other dragons.

Luenny, Many Thanks, I think this is my best 'bug-action-shot' since I started
    shooting these creatures.

Neon, good to know that these are common there. I shot this one in India, but I think
this is probably the first time shooting this species.

Easily ID'ed to family from the eyes. Its a gomphid. or more commonly known as a clubtail. Not too sure on the ID but i would guess its an Ictinogomphus decoratus?

Haha... Mervin, stay positive, of course you can surely get a shot like this. Or maybe
even better. This is just with a Point and Shoot Camera and if you guys have DSLRs
you can surely do much better than me... I liked your recent dragonfly pic... It was
    so good and clear...

Hwchoy, Lol. Haha. Don't say this to your fellow friends on the net...

Haha. Nope, not at all. You mean he only has long zoom lens is it? He seems to have
many. Wonder how much he would sell one as second hand... Saw a 100-300 2nd
hand lens (for Canon) in Admiralty Cash Converters being sold for just $69!!!
